For most people, December 23rd is just another day that falls right before the holidays.
To
this
group of guys, it signifies everyone returning home to help celebrate one of the greatest
traditions and holidays of our lives. As we get older, time decides to move faster and faster;
we find ourselves further from the street we all grew up on. We knew change was going to happen
one day and even though we have absolutely no idea of what life has in store for us from one
year to another, we have grown accustomed to the one constant that remains steadfast…Eve Eve.
Most people would laugh if they were told that this tradition originated in a family driveway in
a crappy Red Dodge Neon (yes, the car), in a town that practically created a national holiday
when it was announced that a Burger King would be built. Yes, that’s exactly how it started.
This tradition was originally an escape for the Ward brothers, Devin and Colby. When your
parents aren’t appreciative of holiday cocktails or ruckus being made inside the house, you get
creative and find new ways to celebrate the wintery holiday. Our method: head outside into the
optimistic snowy weather with a stack of Christmas CD’s, and sing your heart out.
The Eve of Christmas Eve tradition quickly grew. More and more friends decided they would also
like to enjoy a few holiday cocktails while belting out “Five Golden Rings” without any reproach
from any adult. Two became three, three became five, and before we knew it, a second vehicle
needed to be added to the driveway lineup.
It wasn’t until a few years ago, we found The Strong Cabin, a “Christmas Miracle” nestled in the
woods with just enough rustic charm to make you feel like your sleigh has just made it over the
river and through the woods to grandmother’s house. This would become our holiday home.
Besides the tradition of just having our holiday party on December 23rd, every year, for almost
twenty years, we have consistently built new yearly traditions into our reunion, including
scavenger hunts, beer pong tournaments, and our fan-favorite, professional family Christmas
photos. For nearly a decade, we have gathered together to have one lucky photographer take
holiday family photos of us. As you will see, we have a blast doing this. But it’s not always
about us, we also like to bring happiness to those around us. By choosing locations that are in
public, we help bring laughter and smiles to anyone around us.
Today, we find ourselves in a wide array of professions. From chiropractor and bartender, to
police officer and medical professionals, we truly are a diverse group. Some of us are married,
while others are dads. Some of us divorced while others are still searching. Life is forever
changing and it’s important to us to always remember that. Relationships change, evolve, and
end. We bicker and fight, hug and make up. We don’t always see eye-to-eye but we all know we are
there for one another. December builds anticipation for one of the greatest holidays all year,
we get to recreate that special “night before Christmas” feeling we remember from our
childhoods. We are truly blessed to be able to relive that feeling every year while being
reminded that family is truly the best present during the holidays.
Merry Christmas from our family to yours.
Devin
The Dad of the family, the
glue of the family, the oldest of the
family.
Devin is the backbone of the family and there would be no
Christmas Eveve without him. Devin goes above and beyond, not only during the holiday season
but year round. With a positive spirit that carves its
own path, he spreads joy and laughter to everyone around him. A professional in Cat-5-Nate
experiences, scavenger-hunts, and late-night adventures, Devin will forever
be the Dad.
Nate
Dr. Nate, aka Nate-O-Jenkins, aka Cat-5-Nate. Much can be said about Nate; he's doctor, a resident of the south, a below average golfer, and like his father - A talker. But what makes Nate special is the love he pours into this family. From organizing Eveve contests to laying bro-cards on the line, making people happy and witnessing those reactions is what Nate is all about. BUT, no one enjoys celebrating the holiday harder than Nate. His name is Cat-5-Nate for a reason and let's hope that never changes.
Colby
If you ever need advice on low-buget, knock-off movies, ask Colby. As the brother of Devin, Colby excels in promoting positive vibes to everyone around him. (Maybe it's because he can do it for free?) ;) In all honesty, Colby values his friendships, his family, and himself at a high level and Christmas Eveve would not be alive without him. Also, his video game skills are subpar.
Richey
If Christmas Eveve could happen on a boat, Richey would be the captain, just look at that mustache. A friendly soul who's personality lights up the room, it's no secret he's a freeze-baby that would rather be living near a beach down south. Maybe he wants to get further away to avoid losing to Mark in more games? It's unsure. But what we do know is Richey is great husband, a phenomenal friend, a great tree climber, and probably on vacation.
Kaz
Kaz, aka THE NARRATOR, joined the family in 2016 through association of his not-so-twin brother, Max. A smart individual with a friendly and outgoing personality, Kaz is best known for introducing new card/board games that come with his outrageous narration skills and the family is grateful for Kaz and his pink bunny suit.
Ozello
Mike Ozello & Benny, our four-legged fur friend above, joined the photo squad and the Eve Eve
family in recent years. The one with the burly, dark beard and probably sipping a Truly,
Ozello sheds only generosity and kindness to those he surrounds himself with but don't
worry, the sarcasm will warm up.
(It's also worth noting that Ozello cheats at
beer-pong)
Cory
A tremendous father and friend to us all, Cory is a tremendous asset to this family. For some reason though, he thinks his beer-pong and fantasy football skills are top-notch, they're not. But jokes aside, Cory is also a truly genuine person who brings out the best of those around him, he's also a pretty good gift giver, so keep up the good work Cory and take notes Bubba.
Bubba
Will Bubba show up on time? Highly unlikely. Will Bubba forget something? Absolutely. Is Bubba a supporting piece to this amazing family? 100%. There's plenty that could be said about Bubba, just look at that image above. But what stands out is his generosity, uniqueness, and overall passion he has for everyone around him. Sure, he might forget to pick you up, enter a crappy gift into the exchange, or fall asleep at 10pm, but at the end of the day, Bubba is a crucial piece to the puzzle.
Mark
You can't spell lucky or sarcastic without Mark, it's that simple. One of the youngest of the family, Mark is known for his outrageous outfits, hair-styles, gift-giving, and simple randomness. As Christmas Eveve dances into the night, you will certainly find Mark instigating the family into a sudden dance contest or other mischievous tasks. A creative mind with a thoughtful soul, Mark is forever a baby of the family who is capable of absolutely anything.
Max
Ever look at a friend and think "I'm sure glad he's on our side"? Well, that's Max. A Marine to our country and officer to our law, you never know what lurks in a message from Max. If he asks to try something on you, say no, it'll probably hurt (spoiler! He'll do it anyhow). Max is an action-seeker who is as strong as they come, but also as soft as they come; find him playing video games, flexing those small quads in the gym mirrors, or snuggling with his dogs. TGHOOS (Thank God He's On Our Side)
Beeman
Do you enjoy super raw meat? Odds are you don't. Enter Jason Beeman. You'll never truly know if Jason is due to make his appearance at Christmas Eve Eve, you just wait and see if a giant fancy truck pulls up packed with Coors Light. Can't find Beeman at 2am? Check the kitchen. A true gentle giant who helped serve our country, it's never a dull moment when he comes to town.
Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves.
